MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH GIVING

"The world of the generous gets larger and larger" - Proverbs 11.24a, MSG

We believe that giving is an essential part of living for God. God is a giver, and He wants you to be a giver, too.

Giving isn’t just about paying bills or meeting a church budget…it is so much more. Giving is about trusting God with your precious resources, and participating in the overall ministry of the church. This makes giving an act of worship that can change your life!

When you give to Trinity at The Well UMC, you are joining with other Jesus followers to help carry a message of hope and healing to Cartersville, Bartow County, and the entire world.  A few of the ways your gifts make a difference:

  • Worship- online and in-person which is the reason we exist, to glorify God!
  • Weekly ministry programming through the church for children, teens, and adults
  • The Trinity School of Cartersville
  • Community ministries and programs like Scouting, and recovery groups
  • Community feeding programs like Backpack Buddies and the Summer Feeding Program
  • Bicycles for Christmas for children in Cartersville
  • International mission projects in places like Kenya

MANY WAYS YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Make a difference by placing a gift in the offering baskets during service on Sundays.

  • Text "TATW" to 73256

  • Trinity at the Well UMC, P.O. Box 1414, Cartersville, GA 30120

  • Make a bigger impact by donating long-term appreciated securities, including stock, bonds, and mutual funds, directly to Trinity at the Well UMC. Compared with donating cash, or selling your appreciated securities and contributing the after-tax proceeds, you may be able to automatically increase your gift and your tax deduction. Please notify our Financial Administrator that you are making a stock donation. Direct the stock donation to Georgia United Methodist Foundation, 15 Technology Parkway South, Suite 125, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092-8203.  C/O Trinity at the Well UMC.

  • What is a qualified charitable distribution?

Generally, a qualified charitable distribution is an otherwise taxable distribution from an IRA (other than an ongoing SEP or SIMPLE IRA) owned by an individual who is age 70½ or over that is paid directly from the IRA to a qualified charity. See Publication 590-B, Distributions from Individual Retirement Arrangements (IRAs) for additional information.

Can a qualified charitable distribution satisfy my required minimum distribution from an IRA?

Yes, your qualified charitable distributions can satisfy all or part of the amount of your required minimum distribution from your IRA. For example, if your 2018 required minimum distribution was $10,000, and you made a $5,000 qualified charitable distribution for 2018, you would have had to withdraw another $5,000 to satisfy your 2014 required minimum distribution.

How are qualified charitable distributions reported on Form 1099-R?

Charitable distributions are reported on Form 1099-R for the calendar year the distribution is made.

How do I report a qualified charitable distribution on my income tax return?

To report a qualified charitable distribution on your Form 1040 tax return, you generally report the full amount of the charitable distribution on the line for IRA distributions. On the line for the taxable amount, enter zero if the full amount was a qualified charitable distribution. Enter "QCD" next to this line. See the Form 1040 instructions for additional information.

You must also file Form 8606, Nondeductible IRAs, if:

    • you made the qualified charitable distribution from a traditional IRA in which you had basis and received a distribution from the IRA during the same year, other than the qualified charitable distribution; or
    • the qualified charitable distribution was made from a Roth IRA.
